Like so many projects, we are handed a raw site or canvas, as I call it. The rear yard had an existing and enclosed raised deck and paver terrace, with a grill station. The minute I met the owners and saw this site, I knew exactly where I wanted the pool. With these incredible views and site line east and west, we position the oversized/raised spa and free form pool to capture it all.
The goal was to take advantage of these amazing views (sunrises and sunsets), but also maximize and better utilize the existing amenities, access to the home and set the pool at an elevation as if it was floating on this steeply crossed pitched site, which is on the side of a mountain. A free form shaped pool was a natural for this site and how our clients wanted their new pool and space to function. The spa is elevated even more to capture the views and also accommodate many adults or function as a kiddie pool. We always incorporate elements or materials of the home into the landscape/pool. So we veneered the spa/risers with the same stone for continuity. Went with the same pavers for around the pool decking and incorpotated outcroppings of boulders to terrace/retain grade or as accents/sitting rocks in the landscape. Part of the design goal was to make better use of the existing raised deck and to not have the pool fencing impact/obstruct the easterly views! So the fencing was positioned at a lower sloping elevation and new landscaping to hide the rest, without blocking the view.
This was not an easy project by any means, but so thrilled with the result in which we offset the challenges/obstacles and maximized the sites views, beauty and the homes existing and functional spaces that preceded the new pool and landscape scope. It was a great collaboration with our client, who entrusted in use to meet and exceed their expectations. This is a magnificent place now to fully enjoy and take in views that are forever changing and as spectacular as you will ever see.
